I am so tired of my job, first of all the agency I work for is so micromanaged. I mean completely overboard and annoying. We can not move furniture in our office around without getting permission, we are limited to a very regulated 30 min lunch breakin which we are required to hunt down a supervisor to tell them if we want to leave the building. We get monthly reviews in which our supervisor has to find at least one negative or the director won't accept them. So you bust your ass all month long and then you get a review with something stupid written on it. It totally brings down the moral, 90% of the time I don't even read them anymore. It is just wasted energy because then I get my panties in a bunch and have to rebuttle it, which really means nothing because utimately they don't care.
All that grumbling brings me to my point. I want a new job, I am really considering switching to teaching. I want to be a positive influence in little ones lives. I love watching the wheels turn on my boys when they are learning something and I think it would be rewarding to be a part of that in other childrens lives. I do hear teachers talk about how stressful it is so I know it isn't just a walk in the park with a great vacation schedule but I think I would be good at it and I would enjoy it.

Teaching is a noble profession. I was a high school English teacher for 6 years and I loved my students. Being in a classroom and watching something "click" and they suddenly "get it" is very rewarding. If teaching were simply about being in a classroom with the students it would be the perfect job (minus the pay which is shameful). Unfortunately, teaching has become so political with constant hoops to jump through. It really became discouraging. I would never tell someone not to teach, as even I may someday return to the classroom, but with all the requirements placed on teachers by our government, teaching has become more about "teaching to the test" and No Child Left Behind than it really is about student learning and retention. It is really too bad! Best of luck with your decision. (I hope I didn't come across as too negative).
Is a monthly review even legal? I cannot believe an office would tolerate such a waste of time. I wonder what purpose the reviews serve for you and your coworkers?
I am with you about the micromanaging...such a waste of time.
